Several days of memorials will mark the passing of Rosalynn Carter

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter’s passing will be marked by numerous memorials throughout Georgia next week.

Carter, the wife of former U.S. President and former Georgia Gov. Jimmy Carter, died Sunday at her home in Plains, Georgia. She was 96.

Several days of celebration of life ceremonies for Carter begin Monday, Nov. 27, and will be held in various parts of the state. Memorials conclude on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when she is buried at the Carter family residence in Plains.

Eleanor Rosalynn Carter served as first lady of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, and first lady of the United States from 1977-1981.

Here is a brief summary of the schedule of Carter memorials: 

Monday, Nov. 27

Wreath-laying at Georgia Southwestern State University, Rosalynn Carter’s alma mater, and repose at Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Georgia Southwestern is in Americus.

Tuesday, Nov. 28

Carter Center departure ceremony and tribute service.

Wednesday, Nov. 29

Funeral service and interment.

Condolence books will be available to sign at Georgia Southwestern State University, the Plains Welcome Center, Plains High School and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. For more details, log onto The Carter Center website here
