Bio

Tom Sawyer, a graduate of Wichita State University, owns his own accounting services business. He served in the Kansas House from 1987-1998, 2003-2009, and 2013 to the present. He was House Majority Leader from 1991-1992 and House Minority Leader from 1993-1998 and 2019-2022, when he chose to step down but remain in office. He ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1998. He has served on the Kansas Parole Board and as chair of the Kansas Democratic Party.
