Georgia’s most famous son is 100 years old today.
In addition to reaching the century mark, James Earl Carter Jr. — or “Mr. Jimmy,” as friends and admirers call him — is the nation’s oldest living and oldest-lived president.
State Affairs salutes Jimmy Carter through a retrospective look at the Plains, Georgia peanut farmer's life and accomplishments as the Peach State’s 76th governor, the nation’s 39th president and a world leader who brokered a peace accord between Egypt and Israel. Most important, he’s a revered humanitarian who, along with his late wife Rosalynn, built nearly 4,400 homes after his presidency.
Happy birthday, Mr. President — and enjoy a bowl of peanut butter ice cream!
