Job Description:

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has a Program Manager opening in Topeka. The Zero Suicide Program Manager position (K0241941) is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Kansas Implementation of Zero Suicide in Health Systems funded through SAMHSA. The Zero Suicide Program Manager plans and develops state-level suicide prevention and intervention, education, awareness, and evaluation strategies through priorities set by SAMHSA, partners, and strategic planning. The Zero Suicide Program Manager researches, plans, and develops state capacity for suicide related data, training and educational tools for use in program interventions. The Zero Suicide Program Manager utilizes a variety of meeting and communication methods, and a hybrid schedule may be considered.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

The Zero Program Manager supports all aspects of the Implementation of Zero Suicide in Health Systems including development of program goals and objectives, preparation of program progress reports, coordination with evaluator to facilitate evaluation and develop reports, preparation of grant proposals, coordination of meetings and engagement with stakeholders, determining compliance of programs with state and federal guidelines and agency contractual obligations, and monitoring budget.  The Zero Suicide Program Manager provides outreach and presentations, coordinates with the evaluator and partners to develop dissemination products, provides consultation and technical expertise for Zero Suicide, develops and monitors contracts and interagency agreements, participates on state and national planning bodies, and represents the department in professional settings.

Qualifications: 

  • Four years of experience planning, developing, implementing, coordinating and/or providing social or human services to the public or community. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Education:

The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Behavioral Health, Health Education, or related field. Experience may be substituted as determined relevant by the agency.

Licensing & Certification: 

  • Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
  • Three years’ experience in technical assistance, program evaluation, training, and/or grants management.
  • Three years’ work experience coordinating or implementing state or community-based prevention programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare grant proposals and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships, coordinate and evaluate work.
  • Four years’ experience in professional public health, behavioral health, community, or human services.
  • Demonstrated ability for organization and administration.
  • Knowledge of clinical processes.
