After months of political derision and trash talk, the 2024 general election is upon us.

If you couldn’t squeeze in time to vote early during the past three weeks, State Affairs will get you through Tuesday’s election line. Keep these eight tips in mind:

  1. Check to make sure you’re a registered voter. Can’t remember your polling location? Look it up here
  1. The polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. Suggestion: If you want to be toward the front of the line, get there earlier. During the early voting period, some polling places reported long lines before the doors opened. Polls close at 7 p.m. As long as you’re in line by then, you’ll get to vote.
  1. Don’t leave home without some form of identification — driver’s license, state ID or, if you’re a student at a Georgia public college or university, your student ID. No such luck for your peers at private colleges or universities.
  1. Not sure whom to vote for or what’s on the ballot? Check out Vote 411.
  1. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Depending on where you live and the time of day, you could spend a looooong time in line. Folding chairs are optional.
  1. Georgia laws have changed over the past few years regarding the do’s and don’ts of what you can do — or receive — while in line. It’s against the law for anyone to give you water or any other drink or food while you’re standing in line. So bring your own snack and drink.
  1.  Bring some earbuds. State Affairs has compiled a playlist for voters to listen to while in line. Find it here.
  1. Once you’ve voted, follow election results on the secretary of state’s website.
