Ryan Martin

Senior Investigative Reporter

Ryan Martin is a senior investigative reporter for State Affairs Indiana. He joined the company after working as an investigative reporter at The Indianapolis Star. He was part of a team of journalists from four newsrooms who won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for an investigation that examined K-9 units and the damage inflicted by police dogs.

He also co-authored a series that exposed a death crisis inside Indiana’s county jails. The articles were recognized with an award by Investigative Reporters and Editors, and the Indiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has twice honored Martin’s journalism as “Story of the Year.”

Prior to IndyStar, Martin worked as managing editor for The Elkhart Truth. He holds a master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis; a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri; and an associate’s degree from John A. Logan College in southern Illinois, where Martin grew up.

He now lives on Indianapolis’ east side. In his spare time he plays board games with his wife and explores Indiana’s forests with his dogs.
