Tammy Joyner

Tammy Joyner grew up an Army brat, moving every three years until she was a teenager. She lived in numerous places: Washington, New Jersey, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas, and Germany, where she lived twice.

The one constant in her nomadic life was her love of writing, which led to a career in journalism that has spanned four decades, numerous publications, and plenty of unique experiences and encounters, including sharing a Coca-Cola and a Moon Pie with the late-Strom Thurmond and chatting up former President Jimmy Carter. 

Joyner chronicled the end of Eastern Airlines, followed a mother of five as she shopped for food at a scratch-and-dent grocery outlet, and explained the complexities of skyrocketing business costs using a pizza.

Joyner has worked for The Charlotte Observer, The Detroit News, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Glamour Magazine and other publications. She was also a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan.
