Managing Editor
Jim Saunders has covered state government and politics in Florida since 1998. Before joining State Affairs, Saunders served as executive editor of The News Service of Florida. Previously, he worked as Tallahassee bureau chief for The Florida Times-Union, The Daytona Beach News-Journal and Health News Florida. A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native, Saunders graduated from Northwestern University and worked as a reporter at The Blade newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. He joined the Times-Union in 1990, working in St. Johns County and Jacksonville before becoming Tallahassee bureau chief.
Dara Kam

Dara Kam has spent nearly three decades reporting on Florida government, politics and courts for a variety of media outlets, including the New York Times Group, the Associated Press, The Palm Beach Post and the News Service of Florida. Dara is also the creator and host of “Between the Lines with Dara Kam” (formerly called “Deeper Dive with Dara Kam”), a podcast focused on insights into important state issues with some of Florida’s top influencers, elected officials and experts on a wide range of topics. Dara’s body of work includes coverage of presidential, gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, congressional, state Cabinet and legislative races. Dara is known for her diligence in reporting, and her skill at translating complex issues into compelling explanatory journalism.

Is this free?
We are offering free access to our premium news product for all of 2026 to all who sign up in the 2026 calendar year. On January 1, 2027, your account will convert to our standard paid account. If you would like access to tools, your news access will be free for 2026 but you will be charged for tools access at the time of subscription.
How does billing work?
If you sign up now, you will receive free access for the remainder of 2026. After 2026 is over, you will receive an invoice for services. All major credit cards are accepted as are ACH and EFT payments. If you need any forms filled out, our team can assist you. You can reach us at billing@stateaffairs.com.
