Millions of Hoosiers and out-of-state visitors will get a chance to witness Indiana’s first total solar eclipse in centuries on Monday.

In Indianapolis, for example, the fully blocked-out sun will be visible for the first time since 1205, according to the Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University.

But if you miss out on Monday’s eclipse, when will be the next chance?

It will be a while, especially for Indiana.

According to The Planetary Society, the next total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States will happen Aug. 23, 2044. But it will be seen only in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Much of central and northern Indiana isn’t expected to be in the path of another total solar eclipse until 2505. Fort Wayne and a few other cities should see totality again in 2099, while Bloomington will get another solar eclipse in 2153.
