Internship Description

The intern will primarily work with the Data Modernization team. Under the supervision of the Data Modernization Director, the intern will assist with meeting staff from various bureaus throughout the Kansas Department of Health and Environment agency and understanding their workflows. The intern will also assist with analyzing data and developing summaries or reports. The intern will have the opportunity to acquire skillsets related to Microsoft Office products as well as Tableau.

Internship Project Duties

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is seeking one (1) intern to join our Data Modernization Team for the summer.

This internship will be a mutually beneficial partnership between the intern and data modernization initiatives. The selected candidate will assist with administrative and technical duties that will further KDHE’s data modernization goal while also allowing the candidate to learn new skills and grow professionally.

Administrative duties will include notetaking during meetings, summarizing discussions, aligning calendars, and scheduling meetings, leading discussion. The intern will also have the opportunity to grow their technical skills including but not limited to the following: Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Tableau.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college program, undergraduate or graduate
  • Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to sites.
  • Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of employment.
  • As a condition of employment, will be subject to a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • Current college student, majoring in Public Health or Data Analysis or related fields.

Post Offer Requirement

  • State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate. The successful applicant (even non-residents) must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website within 10 days of the date the applicant has been offered the employment position.
