Job Description:

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has a Database Analyst (LIMS Administrator) opening.

KHEL is the sole State public health laboratory in Kansas and produces ~250,000 laboratory reports for human and environmental samples each year. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Perform troubleshooting of retrieval of data as needed. Maintain knowledge of the laboratory testing capabilities and workflows by learning lab processes in all areas to provide input on best practices for setting up analysis codes in the LIMS and to assist in troubleshooting of LIMS. Create LIMSLink methods for auto upload of instrument data into LIMS. Maintain current knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL programming so that advanced workflows and calculations can be used in the configuration. Update workflows and calculations and create new workflows and calculations as testing needs change. Perform updates and development as requested and approved. Develop electronic interfaces with health information exchanges. Develop custom queries and reports to support both outside programs as well as laboratory staff. Maintain the queries by ensuring they are working correctly, and update as needed and approved.

Develop analytical method test codes and reports to meet the needs of the staff and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience with SQL database. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Education:

  • High School, GED

Licensing & Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Preferred Qualifications:

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, natural science, or physical science.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or scientific setting.
  • Previous experience with information management systems.
  • Knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL programming.
  • Experience in laboratory operations and providing training to others.
  • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
