Job Description

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Epidemiologist opening in Topeka. The Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics is seeking an epidemiologist to work closely with the surveillance team in STI and HIV infection and Ryan White Programs to conduct data analyses and assist in presenting and providing information to CDC and partners.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Analyzes data from the Ryan White database to determine health outcomes. Assesses outcomes for those enrolled in Ryan White, evaluates factors related to falling out of Ryan White enrollment and develops communication materials including presentations, one pagers, dashboards, and reports to provide data to partners.

Works closely with HIV/STI Surveillance Program Manager/Surveillance team to provide epidemiologic support to assist HIV/STI surveillance team in analyzing and preparing Epidemiological Profile for Kansas in relation to HIV burden, demographics, locations, and risk factors. Assists Surveillance team in the development and implementation of epidemiologic analysis/studies for the Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention (BDCP) in areas of HIV and other STIs. Assists HIV Prevention and Care/Surveillance programs in analyzing HIV testing information to determine areas of greater need and increased risk factors throughout the state. Helps team develop communication materials to share information with partners which may include dashboards and data viz, presentations, one pager, and reports.

Provides epidemiologic support to other areas within BDCP, particularly as it relates to STI, TB, and viral hepatitis.  Analyzes and identifies trends from data BDCP currently has obtained in areas of TB and other STIs. Develops internal and external communication materials and presentations to share information/data with BDCP team and partners.

Provides analysis and accumulation of data to respond data requests required for submission with Ryan White federal applications across all parts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in public health or other master’s program related to public health.

Licensing & Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Preferred Qualifications:

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • Experience using SAS, R, SPSS, or other statistical software package. Experience with data visualization (tableau, ArcGIS).
  • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
