Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Provide technical assistance to local health departments; provide orientation for all new local health department administrators to include discussion of resources and workforce development opportunities; coordinate communication from multiple KDHE programs to local health departments and other public health system partners. Develop resource materials for local health departments; assist with development of workforce development opportunities including annual conference, online training, and trainings to address emerging needs; conduct outreach. Training and technical assistance will target local health departments in assigned region as well as statewide. This position will assist with collaboration between state staff and local public health agencies for developing and sustaining capacity and knowledge to ensure capacity for emergency operations coordination. This position may provide administrative support for COVID testing and vaccinations in surge situations (if RN). Applies quality improvement principles; conducts QI projects; works directly with local health departments to implement a culture of quality improvement. Collaboration with KDHE public health nursing team. Aid as needed on site with LHDs testing, vaccination, and other COVID-19 related events.

Conduct site visits to local health departments (in-person if practical) for the purpose of identifying training, technical assistance, and resource needs; ensure information is shared with Local Public Health Program team members. Cross-cutting work with all other regions of the state. Assist with efforts to modernize the Kansas public health system. Monitor time to ensure equitable distribution across all counties in assigned region.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, or human services field; Education requirements can be substituted by having at least four years of experience working in a leadership role at a health department.

Licensing & Certification:

  • Valid Driver’s License – Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • Public Health Nurse Position – License to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • License to practice as an LPN or RN in the State of Kansas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or public health.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, health administration, or public health.
  • Provision of technical assistance.
  • Specimen collection (as applicable).
  • Experience with community-based processes including assessment and planning.
  • Experience with grant/report writing.
  • Collaboration and partnership building.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Group leadership/meeting facilitation.
  • Training development and delivery.
  • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
