Job Description:

TERRY HUMPHREY Public Affairs Group is an association management and public affairs company that grows business, trade, and non-profit associations. THPAG builds coalitions and lobbies to advance our clients’ public policy agendas. THPAG is seeking a full-time Strategic Communications, Public Policy, and Community Building Specialist.

This person will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive internal and external communication strategies that raise awareness of the clients’ impact, successes, and results. This role will involve collaborating with internal teams, government agencies, advocacy groups, and the media. The successful candidate will play a vital role in shaping public perception and driving support for our clients’ policy initiatives.

This person is accountable for fostering relationships with external partners to leverage opportunities for growth and collaboration. You will be expected to establish and maintain trust with various internal and external stakeholders.

 

Communication Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a multi-channel digital communications and marketing strategy that aligns with clients’ brand, strategy, and standards
  • Promote client initiatives to the media
  • Monitor in-state and national media and industry news and trends and provide internal updates
  • Organize and promote high-profile PR events and manage the editorial calendar for the planning and timely execution of all communications activities
  • Execute the editorial direction—writing, editing, and developing content—and the design, production, and distribution of the client’s content across all communication channels and platforms
  • Plan, implement, and manage websites and social media for clients
  • Prepare high-quality speeches, testimonies, presentations, articles, internal and external messages, and other written materials for the Executive Director, lobbyists, and client Boards of Directors

 

Policy Responsibilities:

  • Research, write, and edit complex public policy issues and distill into simple, persuasive advocacy messages for diverse audiences
  • Understand short- and long-term client goals and planned initiatives
  • Develop content and direct creative execution to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message
  • Represent clients at external advocacy group meetings, make presentations, and prepare internal reports as needed to convey information, advocacy issues, and community feedback that may affect client operations and brand integrity
  • Use good political judgment and message discipline

 

Community-Building Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to increase engagement and elevate the clients’ work and advocacy agenda
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive contact database and work with key parties to generate new communication materials
  • Develop and execute fundraising and membership-building initiatives for clients

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in strategic communication, marketing, media relations, policy advocacy, public affairs, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Any additional skills, experiences, or qualifications that would be beneficial, but aren’t strictly necessary.

  • Strong, versatile copywriting skills
  • Good organizational, planning, and coordination skills
  • Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as needed
  • Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possesses a sense of urgency; is self-motivated and detail-minded
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Good verbal presentation, group dynamic, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage and execute the association’s fundraising initiatives
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Wix, Constant Contact, and Canva
  • Professional experience and proficiency in managing corporate social media sites
  • Proactive approach to resolving problems and issues

About the Position:

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (Flexible schedules available)

  • Remote, but candidates must be able to travel to in-person meetings, client visits, and occasional staff meetings in Topeka.

Salary Range

$ $65,000 to $80,000
