This week’s episode of the LaPolitics Report podcast (Spotify/Apple) features Gov. Jeff Landry, who focuses most of his interview on this year’s proposed constitutional convention.

Landry offered his take on the Senate’s perceived opposition to the enabling legislation, noting, “I don’t know that they’re not on my side.”

When asked if he would be willing to bend on the legislation’s timeline and perimeters, Landry once again attempted to make the distinction between supporter and lead architect. “I didn’t set a timeline for this convention,” the governor said.

As for what role — if any — former President Donald Trump could play in a potential ratification vote, Landry said there are no such plans and that he has not asked Trump to endorse any kind of document that might emerge from the proposed convention.

The new governor also shared that he keeps in semi-regular touch with former Gov. Bobby Jindal, or at least he has since being elected last fall.

Dialing back much further, Landry reflected on his earliest memories of politics in Acadiana and working on his first campaign installing wooden campaign signs. “I would never say we took signs down,” Landry said with a laugh, “but we did put them up.”

Is there a chance of another special session this calendar year?

Are there any lingering appointments on the way?

Why is the administration positioning on public records laws?
